How To Stop Nexus Player From Updating

Howdy, I take a Nexus seven 2012. Lollipop 5.0 rendered information technology unusable. I managed to flash it back to 4.4.4 Kitkat with a lot of google and youtube. It works again, which was well worth losing 226 levels of candycrush to a corrupted backup. Nonetheless, this week I got the OTA notification for the 5.0.two system update. It downloaded automatically and the notification gives me choices of "Afterwards" or "Install" which of course I don't want to practise.

    So my questions are:

one. If I reboot my tablet, will information technology automatically update? I'm afraid to power off for this reason.
ii. Where is the update file stored so I tin can remove it before any harm is done?
iii. Can I disable the android organisation updates? I can live with Kitkat; at least it works!

I am *not* rooted if that makes a difference. Thanks for any help!

    1. Download the Forums for Android™ app!

      Download

  2. AFAIK y'all cannot actually disable OS updates. You can just keep answering 'Later' instead of 'Install'. It will keep asking every few days or weeks but no big bargain.

Don't worry nearly deleting the update file. Information technology won't damage or do anything until you click 'Install'. If you lot delete it, it will just download once again anyway.

  3. I'd download & install personally, 5.0.2 is pretty killer (in a good way this fourth dimension). If you really don't want information technology though you'll just accept to keep passing on the install.

    3. Yes, by disabling "SystemUpdateService"
Your device must be rooted for #s 2 and iii.

I had the same trouble after updating to 5.0.2 [even so] I am unable to become dorsum to 4.4.4. I downloaded the update [5.0.2] to Nexus 7 2012 on 1/15/15. For less than 2 days the tablet responded extremely slow, took forever to load spider web pages [even atmospheric condition and low application usage games]. Concluding night I plugged it in to charge and the tablet would not accept a accuse. Information technology is now completely dead, will not take a accuse and will not open.

I suggest that people NOT install this update – I take a Nexus seven 2013 edition and I volition non install 5.0.2 on that device--updating requires a confirmed OK from the user

You can printing and hold on the bulletin notification until the pop upwards 'App info' appear so click to the 'App info', go to that (Google Services Framework), follow the blare steps:
    - unchecked 'Evidence notifications'
    - Click on 'Clear information' button.
And now you can come across Your System is up to date in Organization updates, the notification well-nigh update Os gone.

Ok I tried the long press on the notification. App Info took me to Google Play Services (not Google Services Framework) and I unchecked Show notifications. While waiting for the tablet to finish "computing" so I could go along, it unexpectedly restarted.

Afterward rebooting, the OS notification still appeared and I went through the same steps again. This time the tablet did not all of a sudden restart so I cleared the cache and tapped the "Manage space" button to manage the information. The "Clear All Data" button says it will clear total data used past Google Play services, including the search engine and other data. I do not wish to clear all data, files, settings, accounts, databases, etc. from Google Play Services so I will non select this.

Anyway I manually rebooted and I don't meet the OS update notification! I assume I volition no longer receive update notifications for any of my apps in Google Play either, then I will take to check for them occasionally.

Thank you vuholmes. Although my menu did not friction match yours, the problem appears to exist solved.

My device is rooted, yet cannot find the "SystemUpdateService", can yous please help me or directly me to it?
  9. Mr. Lucky

Install Xposed framework then add either the Dilate or Disable Service modules. If you adopt not to use Xposed, I'1000 certain there are stand-alone apps that will do the same thing.

For me SystemUpdateService was in the 'Google Play Services' department.

This is exactly what I wanted. Later on downwards grading my N7 2012 from v.0.ii dorsum to 4.4.4. I couldn't be happier that at that place is a way to 'ignore' the update. thank you sir!

You may want to try to use the Nexus Root Toolkit to become your dead Nexus 7 back to life.

I also joined specifically to thank you, vuholmes! This is exactly what I needed afterward downgrading my Nexus seven (2012) to 4.4.4!

For everyone else here who might be confused while looking for "Google Services Framework," it has probably (if you've updated your base apps before following these instructions) been renamed "Google Play services".
Once you've clicked on "App info," it'll take you in that location.

    - Click off the checkbox for "Show Notifications (aforementioned every bit earlier).
    - Ane added step: Click the "Manage Space" button, and "Google Play service storage" will open up upwardly. Here, y'all tin articulate your information if yous like.
Annotation: I don't really think this step is necessary, because the deleted information simply downloads itself again. I'm fine with some unused update data sitting in a hidden folder somewhere, equally long as I'chiliad not existence constantly pestered about it. I don't demand a rooted tablet, and I won't exist pressed for storage space anyways.

    Simple solution. A+ advice.
    Thanks over again, vuholmes!
